Experienced OB/GYN Program Leader Dr. Austin Kooba

Based in Solana Beach, California, Dr. Austin Kooba joined The Permanente Medical Group as an education lead for the organization’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department in 2002. Over the next 18 years, he held numerous positions with The Permanente Medical Group, including instructor for family medicine physicians in gynecologic diagnosis and procedures, chair of wound infection and sharps surgical safety, and physician director of the certified nurse midwifery program, among many additional leadership roles. Currently Dr. Austin Kooba M.D. practices as an Og/Gyn physician at the Calexico Wellness Center.

Dr. Austin Kooba has held several roles outside of his work in obstetrics and gynecology, including roles as an associate clinical professor and founding faculty member at Touro University Medical School and as an associate clinical professor at the University of California, San Francisco. Between 2020 and 2021, he worked for Napa Valley Food Bank and Catholic Charities as a COVID-19 consultant.

After graduating from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Dr. Austin Kooba completed obstetrics and gynecology training at the Medical University of South Carolina. During his time as an intern and resident, he received the John R. McCain Award from the South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in recognition of his study and research in the field.
